And from the very beginning, it was Su Ning‟s paper published on March 16th, in 1956. In His paper, 8 he pointed out some rules of translation of the foreign eponym and toponym. (Su Ning 3) And later, Zeng Shiying delivered a paper on Geography informing that there was an agreement to the Chinese translation of the foreign toponym. (Zeng Shiying 373) In the last century, the studies of this issue in 1960s mainly talked about the methods to translate the proper noun, and the representatives including Wang Chenchao, Xu Qing, Zhou Youguang, who were working for the paper Word Revolution, they mainly researched on how to spell the foreign proper noun into Chinese. In 1980, Wang Min conducted a research on the translation problems and the standard of toponym translation.(Wang Min, 52) In 1987, the paper “Name Translation Should Consolidate Teaching Notes” is written by Li Jiaxi, who also stressed the single standard of Chinese translation. (Li Jiaxi , 120) In 1990s, there were much more studies than before and most of them focused on the Chinese translation of proper noun based on some famous literature works.
