aking image is the objects mix up with writer’s personal feeling. It is not simple bine of objects and feeling, but skillfully fuses together. Image theory is use mon objects to express special emotion. How to create image became another question. One way to create image is use the connotative meaning the object contend, to express infinite feeling. The image and emotion bine as a unified whole. That is the final stage of a successful poetry. Image is an important Chinese aesthetic category and is formed through thousand years’ creation and appreciation. One important part of image is the objects the poem content. These objects cannot be changed at will in translation, because they are carriers to convey meaning. Sometimes, translator will change a little cater to foreign culture and tradition. In order to be well accepting by other nation, translator should do some changes. But the objects which contend special cultural marks cannot be replaced and in order to make sense, add explanatory note is a way to solve the 5 problem. Otherwise, the translated poetry would lose its own characteristic. Poetry contains the meaning that the writers want to convey, and translator should try their best to keep the original meaning. Some translator may add their own feeling into the writing or interpreter the poetry according to their own will. However, that cannot be called entirely express the writers feeling. That require translator well understands of the poetry and have their own skill of image translation. The basic principle of poetry translation is to keep the original beauty of sense, sound and form. Sound and form are much easier to keep than the sense. A tonal pattern in classical Chinese poetry is one of the most significant characters, just like the rhyme in English poetry. In translation, that king of sound can be changed into an acceptable way. Most of traditional Chinese poetry is metrical poetry and in English there are also have metrical poetry. So, the formtrans can also be realized. (Liu 1962) The most difficult one is sense translation. It is not easy for translator to understand the meaning and feeling the author want to express. Understand the meaning behind the words is more important. In a word, image is one of the most important categories in verse position and appreciation。 it has the power to evoke in our minds the vivid recollection of our sensory experience that may cause a profound thought of the world or the nature of human being. Function of image The classic Chinese poets make extensive use of images in their poetic positions. The charm of classic poetry consists in the image, which emphasizes the important role that image plays in the poetic position. (Chen 1999) From the perspective of semantics, image is the most basic unite of meaning in poetry. Poetry creation cannot go without image The functions of image can be divided into the following four aspects. Firstly, images can display the poet’s subjective feelings and thoughts. The images are imbued with the poet’s intense feelings. The outstanding poets often show 6 their unusual ingenuity in selecting and arranging images. Secondly, images transform the objective abstract and intangible concept into something concentrate and graphic. Thirdly, images can imply rich connotations. Thus, by resorting to the typical images, the poet can achieve an aesthetic effect of “limited words, unlimited meanings.” Fourthly, the unique and original images can help to create a unique artistic conception, enhancing the poem’s appealing power.(Xu 1986) 7 3 Image in Mao Zedong’s Poetry Mao’s poems are expressions of the decades of struggle, of the hope for a new China. In some way, we can say that his poems are war poems. Historical or political events hover around many of Mao’s poems. His poems are simply very beautiful and exultant, each line possessing natural ease, strong and clear. He uses the concrete images of poetry to give the history of modern China. Features of Images in Mao Zedong’s Poetry A Chinese writer once said: “Style is gradually formed in the writer’s creation practice. It is embodied in unique art form and can be reflected in all his works.”(Liu 98) Through a writer’s style we can know his writing character and his aim of writing. It is the marks of a mature writer. If a writer already formed their own style, we can tell the difference between his works and others. Style is a way to decided if one author is mature or not. A mature writer’s style can be seen from all his works and all specific images. Furthermore, we can also tell a writer’s difference style from the rhyme, words, rhetoric and passage structure. Analysis language can help us to know the writer’s writing style. Poetry as a language art mainly uses skill and technique to attract reader’s attention. Thus poets are all good at select words. In creation, they both obey the language rules and break the rules. Obey the rules is to clearly convey the meaning, while break the rules is to use the word in a creative way. Poetic license is use to say the writer’s creation use of language. Both Chinese and western scholar believe that poetry is not about what to say but about how to say and that emphasis the importance of poetry form. The beauty of poet language is one of the most important parts to form artistic conception. If translator ignore the beauty of poetry language, he would also lose the truly beauty of poetry. Before we analysis Mao Zedong’s poetry translation, we need to know his writing features first. After long time studying and analyzing, we can summarize some 8 basic features of Mao Zedong’s poem. Because he is a successful politic leader, most of his poetry is related to politic. Be。
