The bandwidth of twinspiral type phase inverter is greater than that of singlespiral type phase inverter, as expected. Fig. 2 also pares the normalized power losses of singlespiral and twinspiral type phase inverters. They are calculated by the equation 221211 ||||1 SS  . The normalized power loss of singlespiral type inverter is lower than that of twinspiral type inverter due to the cancellation effect of Efield distributions. However, the radiation loss of the twinspiral type phase inverter is still smaller than that of the radialtype phase inverter [7] because of its outofphase excitation. UNIPLANAR 180176。 HYBRIDRING COUPLERS Fig. 3 shows the proposed novel uniplanar 180176。 hybridring coupler with twinspiral type phase inverter. The singlespiral type hybridring coupler has the same circuit layout except that the twinspiral type phase inverter is replaced by the 5 singlespiral one. The impedance of the ring is given by oring ZZ 2 , where 0Z is the port impedance which is chosen as 75 . The length of each arm is quarter wavelength at the center frequency and the dimensions of both phase inverters are the same as those of Fig. 1. The bondwires at the Tjunctions are used to suppress the undesired coupled slotline mode generated at these discontinuities. In this study, both singlespiral and twinspiral type hybridring couplers are designed at center frequency 2GHz and fabricated on the FR4 substrate. In simulation, the coupler (fourport work) is divided into four Tjunctions (threeport works) and four twoport works. These twoport and threeport works are simulated separately by the IE3D software and the results are cascaded and bined to analyze the performance of the hybridring coupler. The measured and simulated results of the hybridring coupler with singlespiral type phase inverter are shown in Fig. 4. The measured results agree well with the simulated ones. Fig. 5 shows the simulated and measured results for the hybridring coupler with twinspiral type phase inverter. The isolation between Eport and Hpor。
