O ur food gi ves you energy al day! The peti ti on between the two restaurants was on! COME AND EAT H ERE (2) A week l ater, Wang Peng’s restaurant was nearl y ful and he fel t happi er. Perhaps he woul d be abl e to earn hi s li vi ng after al and not have to cl ose his restaurant. H e di d not l ook forward to bei ng i n debt because hi s restaurant was no l onger popul ar. H e sm il ed as he wel ed som e custom ers warml y at the door but the sm il e l eft his face when he saw Yong H ui wal ki ng i n. She di d not l ook happy but gl ared at him. “May I ask what you were doi ng i n m y restaurant the other day? I thought you were a new custom er and now I know that you onl y cam e onl y to spy on m e and m y m enu, ” she shouted. “Pl ease excuse m e,” he cal ml y expl ai ned, “I wanted to know where al l m y custom ers had gone l ast week. I fol owed one of them and found them i n your restaurant. I don’t want to upset you, but I found your m enu so l im ited that I stopped worryi ng and started adverti si ng the benefi ts of m y food. Why don’t you si t down and try a m eal?” Yong Hui agreed to stay and soon they were both enjoyi ng the dum pli ngs and breast of chicken cooked wi th garl i c. When they were served the i ce cream, Yong H ui began to l ook il l. “I feel si ck with al thi s fat and heavy food, ”she sai d,“I m iss m y vegetabl es and frui t. ”Wang Peng was enjoyi ng a second pl ate of dum pli ngs so he si ghed. “Yes, ”he added, “and I woul d mi ss my dum pl i ngs and fatty pork. Don’t you get ti red qui ckl y?” “Wel , I do have to rest a lot, ”admi tted Yong H ui . “But don’t you thi nk i t woul d be better i f you were a bi t thi nner? I’m sure you woul d feel much heal thi er. ” They began to tal k about m enus and balanced di ets. “Accordi ng to m y research, nei ther your restaurant nor mi ne offers a bal anced di et, ”expl ained Wang Peng. “I don’t offer enough fi bre and you don’t offer enough body–buil ding and energy–gi ving foods. Perhaps we ought to bi ne our i deas and provi de a bal anced m enu wi th foods ful l of energy and fi bre. ”So that is what they di d. They served raw vegetabl es wi th the ham burgers and boi led the potatoes rather than fryi ng them . They served fresh frui t wi th the i ce cream. In thi s way they cut down the fat and i ncreased the fi bre in the m eal. Thei r balanced di ets becam e such a success that before l ong Wang Peng becam e sli mm er and Yong H ui put on m ore wei ght. After som e tim e the two found that thei r busi ness cooperati on had turned into a personal one . Fi nal ly they got m arri ed and l i ved happi ly ever after. FOR BUILDING A MCDONALD’S I was excited when I heard that our m uni ty was to have i ts own McDonal d’s restaurant. I thought about al l those young peopl e who woul d not have to go to the next town to buy thei r favouri te burgers and chi ps. McDonal d’s cares about heal thy eati ng too and works wi th sci enti sts to provi de food that i s of hi gh qual i ty, safe and heal thy. It i s also cheap . They often provi de sal ads as wel as burgers and chi ps. You can al so choose between col a and mi l k shakes(奶昔 ). Of course it al so m eans m ore work for our area that needs jobs badl y. McDonal d’s say they are i nterested i n doi ng what i s ri ght for the m unity and bei ng a god nei ghbour. So I thi nk they wil be concerned about providi ng parki ng for the cars i n our mai n stret. Many of our young peopl e wil l be onl y too happy to work for the pany. McDonal d’s m akes a promi se to the peopl e that work for them . They say,“We value you, your growing skil l s and your hel p to the pany. ”I can see nothi ng but good i f thi s pany es to bui ld i ts restaurant i n our town. AGAINST BUILDING A MCDONALD’S I am very worri ed about McDonal d’s buil di ng a restaurant in our hom etown. We are a sm al m uni ty and we enjoy our l ocal di shes. I am not sure i f McDonal d’s food i s as healthy as they say i n thei r adverti sem ents. When sci enti sts l ok at i t careful l y, they fi nd hi gh l evels of fat, sugar and salt. This is very worrying. Too m any young peopl e are getti ng fat through eati ng too much fatty food. McDonald’s is not gi ving young people a good i dea of what a heal thy diet shoul d be. Local Chi nese food, on the other hand, i s ful of fresh vegetabl es and fresh meat and fi sh.
