When I tol d her that our journey woul d begi n at an al ti tude of m ore than 5, 000 m etres, she seem ed to be exci ted about i t. When I tol d her the air woul d be hard to breathe and i t woul d be very col d, she sai d i t woul d be an i nteresti ng experi ence. I know m y si ster wel. We found a l arge atl as wi th good m aps that showed detai l s of worl d geography. From the atlas we coul d se that the Mekong Ri ver begi ns i n a gl aci er on a Ti betan m ountai n. At first the ri ver i s sm al and the water i s cl ear and col d. Then i t begi ns to m ove qui ckl y. It be es rapi ds as i t passes through deep val eys, travel li ng acros western Yunnan Provi nce. Som eti mes the ri ver be es a waterfal l and enters wi de val eys. We were both surpri sed to l earn that hal f of the ri ver i s i n Chi na. After i t leaves Chi na and the hi gh al titude,the Mekong be es wi de, brown and warm. As it enters Southeast Asi a, its pace sl ows. It m akes wi de bends or meanders through l ow val eys to the pl ai ns where ri ce grows. At l ast, the ri ver delta enters the South Chi na Sea. PART2 A NIGH T IN TH E MOUNTAINS Al though i t was autum n, the snow was al ready begi nni ng to fal i n Ti ur l egs were so heavy and col d that they fel t l ike blocks of i you ever seen snowmen ride bicycl es?That’s what we looked l ike! We seemed to be able to see for mi les. 一、 工程概况 XX 二、施工现场平面布置 由于园林小品各景点分布在绿地的各个地方,因此建筑材料堆放应根据各景点大小进行合理堆放。 临时道路设置 为了满足施工材料的运输需要,工地需要修筑临时道路,为了减少材料的浪费,确保道路路基实度,故开工前应结合永久的道路的设计标高,提前将碎石垫层按设计要求铺平压实,表面再铺瓜子片或粗砂做面层压实,供施工时使用。 等以后再浇筑砼路面,这样不仅确保永久性道路的质量,又保证了施工材料的运输和供应。 临时排水网设置 根据现场实际情况,搞好排水网设计。 为确保施工现场 平整、整洁,应修好排水沟网络和污泥水沉淀池,将地面雨水及时排入临时排水沟,面积较大的地方应设置沉淀池,经沉淀后再排入市政管道。 施工用水布置 施工用水分点设置供应,如砼搅拌站,工地养护用水,生活区用水,消防用水进行有计划的分点供应,并在主水管上设置总的水表,以确计量使用。 管道应埋在地下防止机械辗压。 施工用电应根据三相电路,基本做到平衡,由总配电箱分出,两箱为动力分配电箱,一箱为工地照明及生活照明分配电箱,并附设电表计量。 现场主要施工机械计划: (见附表 ) 三、施工准备总设想 熟悉 施工图纸。 了解设计意图,对图纸中的吊点、难点开展技术攻关,画出大样图。 熟悉施工现场的实际情况,摸清施工现场的地下管线,地下暗沟,地下装置、障碍物,地下水位等一切情况,采用相应的技术措施。 i denti ty? Beli eve it or not, there i s no such thing as standard Engli sh. Many peopl e bel ieve the Engl ish spoken on TV and the radi o i s standard Engli sh. Thi s i s because in the earl y days of radi o, those who reported the news were expected to speak excel ent Engli sh. H owever, on TV and the radi o you wil l hear di ferences i n the way peopl e speak. When peopl e use words and expressions different from the “standard l anguage”, it is cal l ed a dial ect. American English has many dial ects, especi al ly the Mi dwestern, southern, Afri can Am eri can and Spanish di al ects. Even i n som e parts of the USA, two peopl e from nei ghbouri ng towns speak a li ttl e di fferentl y. Am eri can Engl i sh has so many di al ects because peopl e have e from al l over the worl d. Geography al so pl ays a part i n m aki ng di al ects. Som e peopl e who l i ve in the m ountai ns of the eastern USA speak wi th an ol der ki nd of Engli sh di al ect. When Am eri cans m oved from one pl ace to another, they took thei r di al ects wi th them. So peopl e from the mountai ns i n the southeastern USA speak with alm ost the sam e di alects as people i n the northwestern USA. The USA i s a l arge country i n whi ch m any di fferent di al ects are spoken. Al though m any Am eri cans m ove a l ot, they stil l recogni ze and understand each other’s dial ects. TH E O XFO RD EN GLISH DICTION ARY You m ay thi nk that Engl ish di cti onari es have been used for m any, m any centuri es. The speli ng of Engl ish has al ways been a probl em but i t was m ore of a probl em i n the days before a di cti onary. Then peopl e coul d spel l word i n di fferent ways whi ch you mi ght find i t i nteresti ng. But i t m ade reading Engli sh m uch m ore di ffi cul t. So di cti onari es were i nvented to encourage everybody to spel the same. In fact, an Engl i sh di ctionary li ke the ki nd you use today wasn’t made until the ti m e of the l ate Qi ng Dynasty. There m en di d m ost of the im portant earl y work on di cti onari es: Sam uel Johnson, N oah Webster, and James Murray. These m en spent nearl y al l of their l i ves tryi ng to col l ect words for thei r di cti onari es. For them, it wasn’t only a job。 it was a wonderful journey of discovery. The l argest dictionary in the worl d is the O xford Engli sh Di cti onary, or O ED for short.
