As some of these actors coul d not si ng wel l enough, they had to rely on other m usi ci ans to hel p them . So duri ng the broadcasts they just pretended to si ng. Anyhow thei r perform ances were hum orous enough to be copi ed by other groups. They were so popul ar that their fans form ed cl ubs i n order to get m ore fam il i ar with them. Each week on TV, the Monkees woul d pl ay and si ng songs wri tten by other m usi ci ans. However, after a year or so in whi ch they becam e m ore seri ous about thei r work, the Monkes started to play and si ng their own songs l i ke a real band.
