Anyhow thei r perform ances were hum orous enough to be copi ed by other groups. They were so popul ar that thei r fans form ed cl ubs i n order to get m ore fam il ar wi th them . Each week on TV, the Monkees woul d play and si ng songs written by other m usi ci ans. H owever, after a year or so i n whi ch they becam e m ore seri ous about thei r work, the Monkees started to pl ay and si ng thei r own songs li ke a real band. Then they produced thei r own records and started touri ng and pl ayi ng their own m usic. In the USA they becam e even m ore popul ar than the Beatles and sol d even m ore records.
