They also argue that to challenge gender oppression within their own culture does not make them Western as some people within their cultures would contend. And an underlying theoretical premise of postcolonial feminism is concepts of freedom, equality, and rights stemming from the Enlightenment privilege European norms. Lucinda, the leading protagonist in Oscar and Lucinda, as an EnglishAustralian is characterized by feminism with European background. She lives in contradictory circumstances and has been marginalized and isolated by her fellows, men and women. Her persistent struggle against the inequality reflects the women’s living condition in 19th century and the writer’s viewpoint on this issue in 20th century. 二、论文拟阐明的主要问题 Feminism in menled Australia has its own contents and forms. Each potential feminist individual has received different educations and was influenced by different living conditions. The thesis is an attempt to demonstrate feminism in Lucinda in terms of her character, her conflicts with society, her love with Oscar and the survival way in desperation and to analyze reasons for Peter Carey to delineate such a feminist character in light of Australian history and culture. The thesis concludes that feminist aspects of Lucinda, to some extent, reflect the marginalized identity of Australia, just as Lucinda is isolated from the dominant world. To women in Australia what matters most is the reorientation in society. 背景或意义 简述研究问题的基本思路、方法和主要观点 14 三、论文提纲 1 Introduction A survey of Peter Carey’s writing career and his major works。 ments, positive and negative, on Oscar and Lucinda。 the argument of the thesis. 2 Feminism in Oscar and Lucinda Lucinda’s conflicts with man’s world Lucinda’s conflicts with Oscar Lucinda’s conflicts with Australian conventions 3 Motivations for Peter Carey’s delineate feminism in Oscar and Lucinda Feminism and Australia’s cultural identity Feminism and Australian history 4 Conclusion The thesis concludes that feminist aspects of Lucinda, to some extent, reflect the marginalized identity of Australia, just as Lucinda is isolated from the dominant world.
