Early in his life it became clear that young Bill, as his family called him, would also be a success. At primary school he did better than all his classmates in nearly every subject. In 1966 Bill went to a special high school for clever students. The following year, with the help of a puter business, the school became one of the first in the country to let students use puters. Bill would stay in the puter room all day and night writing programmes and reading puter books to learn more. He also broke the puter’s security system(安全系统 ) and changed its information. When Bill’s acticons were discovered by the puter business, instead of being angry, they gave him a job to repair the problems. After learning how able he was, many other businesses asked Bill to do the same for them and he soon learned that he could make a living by doing something he loved. In 1973, Gates left for Harvard University to study law. He did well but, just as in high school, his heart was not in his studies. After discovering the school’s puter centre, he lost himself in the world of puters once again. Gates would spend many nights in front of the school’s puter and the next days fell asleep in class.
